I came tothe conclusion that Langston was writing about te struggle to emancipation for blacs. Lanston Hughes wrote about racism oftenin his poems, and this event poem seems to follow that descriptor. Hughes gives the feeling of loneliness and dismay atthe concomitant that he is not considered satisfactory to white people. Thepoem represents the struggle for freedom and to beconsidered equal.
